I love this article. A teacher thinking outside of the box and motivating his pupils in a way that would really resonate with them and make them feel valued is fantastic.
I got in a lot of trouble back in the day for drawing/writing on my school desks. It was just very important to me that everyone who read the table knew exactly what my mate Charlie’s mum was up to…
This fifth grade teacher had different ideas. Her students had a high stakes exam coming up which she knew them to be worried about. With that in mind, she chose to write them motivational messages on their desks on the run up to the test…
“Mrs. Langford at Evergreen Avenue prepared inspirational, growth-mindset messages for every one of her students,” the Woodbury City Public Schools Facebook page wrote.
“A lot of my kids were nervous that if they don’t pass this test with good scores they won’t go to the next grade. They feel a lot of anxiety about that,” Langford told Philly.com. “I thought this would be a cute thing for them to walk into.”
“When I read the message, my fear went away,” her student Julissa told Philly.com. “I knew I could actually do it.”
That’s nice but, in some cases, you shouldn’t always believe what you see written on furniture. That’s what the Queen wrote on a kitchen worktop in our office block, anyway…
In physics class in 2009, someone wrote on the desk next to me “Alfie shags his mum”. I don’t. Further proof if anything.
What do you think? Nice idea? Let us know in the comments!
